Discuss whether Jonas' assignment as the next Reciever of Memory is an honor or a punishment.

I think that Jonas' assignment as the next receiver of memory is an honor. It is the most respected and important assignment in his community. But most importantly you learn new things, both bad and good, and you also get to have feelings that no other person has experienced.

Discuss similarities between our society and the society in your novel.

The similarities between our society and the novel are endless. I will attempt to name a few of them. In Jonas' community they have a government and laws which keep their community under control. They are also divided into families of four, the father, the mother, the son, and the daughter. They have schools just like us where they are educated and prepared for their assignment. And they have the common everyday entertainment, a bicycle which they learn how to ride and adore. Moreover they have jobs (assignments) which they are trained for from a young age.

Compare the relationship Jonas has with the Giver to the relationship he has with his mother, father, and sister?

I believe that the relationship that Jonas and the Giver have is meaningful, he is closer to the Giver than he is with his family. The Giver can share his memories and opinions with Jonas. The Giver also knows what Jonas feels like and what he's going through. On the other hand his parents don't know how he feels, there conversations are limited because Jonas can't talk about his assignment. But both the Giver and his family take care of him, love him and want the best for him.
